The Network Administrator IV is responsible for the designing, securing, and maintaining of the National Training Center (NTC) networking infrastructure. This includes the implementation and design of perimeter and internal networking systems, as well as monitoring the performance of these systems. Provides day to day support in the administration of the NTC firewalls, switching, and routing. The Administrator will apply knowledge of networking technologies to investigate, identify, and resolve technical and cyber security issues.

· Design and implement new technologies or techniques to improve and secure the operating environment of the NTC.

· Analyze business need and make recommendations on best possible paths forward relating to technology and security.

· Manage security systems that include but are not limited to firewalls, switches, intrusion detection systems/intrusion prevention systems, web content filtering systems, mail gateways, multifactor authentication systems, and Syslog servers.

· Provides support in the areas of vulnerability assessment, incident handling, system hardening, and system implementation of network resources.

· Manages the NTC VoIP PBX to support telecommunication needs.

· Manages Ethernet switches, creates and maintains VLANs, maintains port security, and monitors network traffic.

· Proactively monitors system and security logs of network devices.

· Supports NTC Cyber Security Staff ensuring the appropriate operational security posture is maintained for all NTC Information Systems in accordance with all applicable DOE orders and requirements.

· Assist in remediation of findings discovered by regular vulnerability scanning.

· Supports in the investigation, identification and resolution of cyber security issues and provides forensic analysis of logs and network traffic.

· Monitors network systems performance, and security baselines. Creates reports to management based on this information and identifying any potential problem areas.

· Provides recommendations for physical network infrastructure upgrades while ensuring traffic flow efficiency.

· Responsible for generating requirements for ordering new hardware, and updating or maintaining existing hardware for all NTC networking systems.

· Create and maintain technical documentation of network related implementations.

· Perform routine audits of networking systems and applications.

· Troubleshoots any reported problems.

Supervisory Responsibilities:


Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
Diverse IT experience with a minimum of six years of networking technologies.
Preferred Firewall and cyber security related certifications
Preferred VoIP, audio, and video bridge experience.
Preferred certification CCNA,CCNP, or ECE

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Unquestioned integrity and qualification for a government security clearance
Experience with perimeter security devices such as routers, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and web content filtering systems.
Experience with fiber optics, twisted-pair, patch-panel cabling standards, and multi-toning/tracing, cable testing.
Working knowledge and understanding of standard networking protocols.
· Familiarity with current Microsoft Server OS

· Fluency with Ethernet, 802.1x Network Access Control, Port-Security, VLANs, Radius, BGP and serial connections.
